31st Annual Great Northern Ice Fishing Tournament: January 28th, 2017

Northwoods winters are a ton of fun, but nothing beats the long treasured tradition of ice fishing! So what better way to raise funds for a great cause than with an ice fishing tournament? The Phelps – Land O’Lakes Lions Club is proud to host the Annual Great Northern Ice Fishing Tournament every January on the beautiful frozen waters of Lac Vieux Desert Lake.
Pre-registration is greatly encouraged. Entry fees are $50 per person, or $55 on the day of the event. For more details, downloand the 2017 registration letter here.
This winter fishing tournament is open to all ages, and everyone from ages 1 to 100 is sure to enjoy the day! The tournament consists of two fishing contests, with the first running from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m., and the second from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.. Lunch and warm beverages will be available for purchase on site. Are you ready to show off your ice fishing skills and support the Lions Club community service goals?

Prizes aplenty are awarded for the winners of the Great Northern Ice Fishing Tournament in multiple categories. $100 CASH prizes given for:
- Biggest Walleye
- Biggest Northern Pike
- Biggest Crappy
- Biggest Perch
- Biggest Bluegill
- BONUS prize for largest Northern over 36”
- BONUS prize for largest Walleye over 26”
And when you participate in the Lions Club ice fishing tournament, you don’t just win a cash prize. You receive the wonderful reward of knowing that your day of fun and fishing supports the local and world-wide community! What prize could be bigger than that?
Hearty Meal, Prize Drawings & Raffles!
You don’t want to miss out on the awards dinner following the tournament. Dinner is included in the registration fee, as well as entry into prize drawings. Extra dinner tickets are available for $15 if you would like to enjoy the evening with friends or family.
This year’s dinner will be served at the Lac Vieux Desert Casino in Watersmeet. The bar opens at 4:30 pm, with dinner from 5:30 to 6:30 pm.
The day’s big catch prizes will be awarded at the ceremony, with so many prizes and raffle items that almost everyone is a winner. (Must be present to win.) You could even win a cross bow, ice shanty, or ice auger!
